Kent Reliance probate limit

Kent Reliance releases up to £35,000 in the person’s name alone without probate. Above that, it asks for a grant of probate (or letters of administration).

“Please note, if the total balance of the deceased's account(s) was £35,000.00 or above as at the date of death but has since fallen below, we'll still require a grant of probate/letters of administration to close the account.”

Questions about Kent Reliance and probate

How much can Kent Reliance release without probate?

Kent Reliance releases up to £35,000 in the person’s name alone without probate. Above that, it asks for a grant of probate (or letters of administration). In its own words: “Please note, if the total balance of the deceased's account(s) was £35,000.00 or above as at the date of death but has since fallen below, we'll still require a grant of probate/letters of administration to close the account.” From Kent Reliance’s own website, checked 4 November 2026.

Do joint Kent Reliance accounts need probate?

Usually not. A joint account normally passes straight to the other account holder, so it doesn’t count towards Kent Reliance’s limit. Only money in the person’s name alone does.

Is the Kent Reliance limit per account?

No, banks look at the total. Add up every account in the person’s name alone at Kent Reliance. Money at other banks is judged against each bank’s own limit.

What if the Kent Reliance balance is over the limit?

Apply for probate (or letters of administration if there’s no will), then send Kent Reliance a copy of the grant. One grant works at every bank, so if any one bank needs it, it covers the rest too.
